Each day is filled with hustle and bustle, and being our first venture into retail operations, we are encountering unexpected challenges. Nevertheless, everything is a new and exciting experience.

Sasaki Celluloid Industrial Co., Ltd. is a factory with a full production line for plastic eyewear, a rarity in Japan with only a few companies possessing such capabilities. True to its name, OPTIQ TAILOR is not only a place where you can find eyewear customized just for you, but it is also an innovative store where you can tour the actual plastic frame manufacturing line and even take on the challenge of the artisan polishing process. Various thoughtful touches have been implemented here to transform the eyewear selection for customers into a special experience beyond a mere product purchase.

 

Feature 1: Factory tour for general customers

Founded by Sasaki Matsukichi, a first-generation apprentice of Sabetani Gosaemon who brought eyeglass making to Sabae over 100 years ago, Sasaki Celluloid Industrial Co., Ltd. has upheld its historic craftsmanship. The artisans continue to refine their skills day by day. At OPTIQ TAILOR, you can take a behind-the-scenes factory tour to glimpse the heritage of craftsmanship that has been passed down.

• Factory Tour Fee: Adults ¥1,100 (tax included), High School Students ¥550 (tax included), Junior High School Students and below are free.

• Visitors who make a purchase or participate in the polishing experience can enjoy a complimentary short version of the factory tour.

• Schedule: 11:00, 13:00, 15:00 on business days. (Up to 10 participants per session)

 

Feature 2: Experience program where you can experience the “polishing” of Sasaki celluloid

At OPTIQ TAILOR, in addition to shopping and factory tours, you can also enjoy a polishing experience program for accessories and miscellaneous items.
